Groovs are face animations that can be applied to still photos. You can create your own Groov animation based on a song, chant, or speech via the following instructions:

To create a Groov:

  1. Setup a stationary camera for recording. We recommend using a web camera and OBS
  2. Playback an audio track on your computer. Disable your microphone during the recording.
  3. Record yourself mouthing the words of the audio track.
  4. Use the best practices and video specs below

Best Practices

Avoid drastic head movements:

Make your head take up 50-80% of the frame:

Over-Articulate your words with exaggerated mouth movements, avoid mumbling:

Video Specs:

  • Frame Rate: 30fps
  • Aspect Ratio: 1:1 - You can quickly and easily use Adobe Express to trim your videos to 1:1
  • Video Format: MP4
  • Video Length: 30 seconds or less is strongly recommended. However, you can exceed 30 seconds when needed

To upload a custom Groov:

  1. From the Groov Main Menu, select Settings
  2. Then select Reference Videos
  3. At the bottom of the Audio Clips list, you can upload your own Groov
  4. After uploading, be sure to toggle the Groov ON as seen in the image below
